Homegrown Detroit

The City of Detroit Adult-use Marijuana Ordinance is effective. The City of Detroit has opened the application process for those licenses that are Unlimited. Instructions can be found below. Check the City of Detroit website for information on when we will begin accepting Retail license applications.

The Detroit Cannabis Project is an all-inclusive incubator program to give folks the knowledge, tools, network, and access to capital to create successful, sustainable cannabis businesses in Detroit. You’ll have the opportunity to learn from professionals with a collective 50+ years of experience launching and running cannabis companies of all kinds. The goal is to help you learn real world skills and by the end of our sessions, be ready to apply them.

Getting Started

Steps to Obtain a License

Review below the steps to get started in operating an adult-use or medical marijuana facility.

Before you apply for a license you must complete steps 1, 2 & 3

These first 3 steps can be started in any order and completed at the same time

Step 1: Get approved by the State of Michigan

Get prequalified by the State of Michigan by filling out the below application

Apply for the Social Equity program if from disproportionate community

Step 2: Detroit Legacy Certification

The Detroit Legacy applications process opened on January 19, 2021.

 

The City of Detroit's Civil Rights, Inclusion, and Opportunity (CRIO) Department will certify that applicants currently reside in Detroit and must provide documentation that they have:

 

Lived in Detroit for 15 of the last 30 years, or

Lived in Detroit for 13 of the last 30 years and are low income, or

Lived in Detroit for 10 of the last 30 years and have a marijuana conviction or have a parent with a marijuana conviction.

Step 3: Tax Clearance

All individual members/stakeholders/officers of the entity and the entity itself should submit an individual clearance application in addition to the business clearance for the corporation/LLC (if applicable)

Please indicate that you are applying for a marijuana license in your application

Once you have completed the above steps, you will be ready to move to the steps below

Once you have reviewed the process guides, application checklist and gathered the required documentation you can apply for a new license.
